Promotions company and 9:30 Club owners I.M.P. announced that its forthcoming music venue, The Anthem, will open on Oct. 12 at Southwest Waterfront development The Wharf. To mark the occasion, I.M.P. has tapped the Foo Fighters to headline its grand opening show. Tickets will go on sale to the public this Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m. via Ticketfly.
The Foos have had a long history with I.M.P. and its large portfolio of music venues. Frontman Dave Grohl was recently invited to tour The Anthem during its construction, noting to Billboard that “It has the illusion of a stadium, but the intimacy of a nightclub. It’s perfect.” Seth Hurwitz, chairman of I.M.P. and co-owner of 9:30 Club, noted that his decision to pick the Foo Fighters for The Anthem’s grand opening was easy. “There was never any question about who would open. There was no Plan B,” he said in a statement. Ticket prices for the show range from $100-$175.
When it opens, The Anthem will be one of the area’s largest venues to see live music, holding up to 6,000 concert-goers. Melanie Cantwell, head talent buyer of 9:30 Club, was recently chosen to handle music booking efforts for the venue. Doris Amor (previously Vice President of Artists and Touring at IMG Artists) has been brought on board to serve as The Anthem’s general manager.
Aside from announcing the Foo Fighters’ show, The Anthem is expected to release its initial concert lineup later this month.
