Funk Parade has announced its massive music lineup for this year’s event, taking place on Saturday, May 6 along U Street.
Rising R&B singer-songwriter Aaron Abernathy, Grammy-nominated artist Carolyn Malachi, the soulful D.C. duo Boomscat (who recently performed at South by Southwest), veteran funk outfit Clones of Funk and many more excellent local acts were revealed as official Funk Parade performers. They’ll join headliners Backyard Band, Sinkane and Sun Ra Arkestra for the big celebration in May.
In all, Funk Parade plans to have 20 performance stages devoted to music and dance. There’ll also be several interactive activations on site, going along with Funk Parade’s future-forward theme. The lineup boasts a Future Funk Laboratory, where members of the local tech community will show off their projections and projects at iStrategyLabs, and a costume lounge where festival go-ers are encourage to wear their funkiest outfits.
Keeping with tradition, Funk Parade will be separated into three celebrations–the day fair will run from 12 p.m.-7 p.m., the parade from 3 p.m.-4 p.m. and the evening music festival that starts at 7 p.m. The entire event is free and all-ages. Funk Parade is also raising funds for this year’s festival via Indiegogo, so if you want to show your support, consider making a donation!
