Agenda: Support Funk Parade 2017 through Thursday’s Kickoff Show and Fundraiser
A local music festival we always look forward to each spring is Funk Parade, a free community celebration featuring D.C.’s funkiest musicians. For one day, U Street virtually shuts down to make room for the many concert stages, demonstrations, workshops, art activations and more that are featured during Funk Parade, and it seems that this year’s event will only be bigger than the last.
This Thursday’s kickoff party at Tropicalia will help raise funds for the festival, which will take place on Saturday, May 6. The music lineup will also give the public a taste of what to expect at this year’s show, featuring a funky, diverse slate of local acts like R&B stars Reesa Renee and Alex Vaughn along with Joe Keyes and the Late Bloomer Band. The show also promises appearances from special guests and the unveiling of Funk Parade’s initial music lineup.
Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door, and all the proceeds from the show will benefit Funk Parade. The kickoff party runs from 7 p.m.-10 p.m.
