Meet the Musicians Representing D.C. at SXSW this Year

D.C. will be well represented at South by Southwest this year, as dozens of local musicians will make their way to Austin for the big event.

Part of that large presence is due to the city’s SXSW initiative spearheaded by the Washington D.C. Economic Partnership, Events DC and Mayor Muriel Bowser‘s office. From March 11-14, the city plans to host a wide range of events–from panels to live music–at its WeDC House pop-up venue and other spots around Austin. D.C. music vets like Thievery Corporation, go-go legends Rare Essence and Backyard Band, R&B duo BOOMscat, MC Ras Nebyu, Reesa Renee, Ari Lennox (the most recent signee to J Cole’s Dreamville Records) and more will share the stage with national headliners Wu-Tang Clan and Erykah Badu.

Besides the WeDC House, there are plenty more D.C. acts playing official showcases around Austin. Hometown heroes Priests are headlining BrooklynVegan’s SXSW showcase on March 16, while local post-punk trio Flasher plays Vans’ official showcase the day before on March 15. Rising DJ/producer Manila Killa is scheduled to play several events, including Monster energy drink’s showcase on March 16.

If you can’t be in Austin this year to see these acts for yourself, get to know them via our playlist below, and see them at a local show around town soon.
