Owners of 9:30 Club Announce Name of New D.C. Music Venue

By Jenna Robinson | News

Promotions company I.M.P.–which operates 9:30 Club, the Lincoln Theatre, Merriweather Post Pavilion and other local venues–has announced the name of its new music venue opening this fall–the Anthem.

The Anthem will be a part of the Southwest Waterfront’s new development The Wharf, and is expected to open in October 2017. The $60 million venue can hold up to 6,000 people, a much larger space compared to 9:30 Club (1,500) and the Lincoln Theatre (1,225).

A couple industry veterans have also been brought on board to manage the venue. Melanie Cantwell, head talent buyer of 9:30 Club, will spearhead bookings for the Anthem. Dori Armor, who’s recently served as the Vice President of Artists and Touring at IMG Artists, has been named the Anthem’s general manager.
