Monday, Dec.12-Tuesday, Dec. 13–Crunchy Leaf Fest @ Lilly Trotter Tea Lounge. Show 6 p.m./$5-$10 cash donations
The good folks at DIY space Lilly Trotter Tea Lounge are throwing a two-day music festival before the end of the year. Between Monday and Tuesday, you’ll get to see bands like D.C. post-punk trio Two Inch Astronaut, Philly’s Spirit of the Beehive, Baltimore’s Trunkweed and more great acts at the space.
Wednesday, Dec. 14–Laura Burhenn and Den-Mate @ Songbyrd. Show 8 p.m./Tickets $12 advance or $14 DOS
Laura Burhenn of the Mynabirds is coming back to town this Wednesday, headlining our go-to music spot, Songbyrd. The D.C. native recently released a couple new songs, “Apples & Oranges” and its B-side “Good Medicine,” before hitting the road in October. Wednesday’s show at Songbyrd will be the last stop on her U.S. tour. D.C.’s own Den-Mate will open this show.
Thursday, Dec. 15-Saturday, Dec. 17–Thievery Corporation @ 9:30 Club. Doors 8 p.m./SOLD OUT
What’s become a yearly tradition towards the holidays, Thievery Corporation is taking over 9:30 Club for three sold out shows. No matter how many times you’ve seen them in concert, each show is a completely different experience that dishes out one surprise after the next. All three shows at 9:30 Club sold out pretty quickly, but check Facebook for anyone who might have an extra ticket.
Saturday, Dec. 17–Nag Champa @ Shaw Library. Show 2 p.m./FREE
If you’re free on Saturday afternoon, Shaw Library and Capital Fringe are presenting a free show featuring the innovative D.C. ensemble Nag Champa. For anyone who reads this column often, there is really no introduction needed to this group. Nag Champa takes the live show experience to a new and exciting level, fusing free jazz, trip-hop, soul and other electronic elements to make music that feels ahead of its time.
Sunday, Dec. 18–Haushouse Holiday Fiesta @ Haushouse. Show 6 p.m./Cash donations
As always, Haushouse has got a solid lineup set for Sunday, featuring Adam Schatz of Brooklyn band Landlady, avant-garde group Heart of the Ghost, Omar Pitras Waqar and Ilana Alazzeh along with rock trio Park Snakes. There’s a little bit of something for everyone at this show, so come through to Haushouse before 2016 comes to an end.
