The Lumineers, Sharon Jones and More Will Headline South by South Lawn Festival
A couple weeks back, President Obama announced his own music and arts festival at the White House called South by South Lawn. Inspired by his trip to South by Southwest, he’s joined forces with the festival’s organizers to recreate a similar one-day event filled with music, art and panels. On Sunday, the White House announced the first wave of performers and other celebrities scheduled to appear at South by South Lawn.
The initial music lineup includes folk rock outfit The Lumineers, soul act Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and DJ Beverly Bond. More acts are expected to be announced within the next few weeks (and hopefully they’ll be some local bands added to the mix). Outside of music, keynote speakers include President Obama and Leonardo DiCaprio, who’ll also screen his forthcoming climate documentary, Before the Flood, at the event. For all the Stranger Things fans, the cast and crew will be onsite for a film workshop. You can check out the entire festival schedule here–from the looks of it, it’s going to be pretty awesome.
Admission to South by South Lawn is through invite only. Anyone interested in attending could submit their name via an online nomination form, which is now closed. South by South Lawn will take place on Oct. 3.
