In contrast to the bright, glossy production on her recent song “Alright,” Young Summer‘s follow up, “Paused Parade,” is a more stripped-down hit that’s just as impressive.

“Paused Parade” is the second single from her forthcoming EP, which is expected to drop this summer. The smooth, jazzy tune shows a wholly different side to Summer compared to previous recordings. “Paused Parade” foregoes lush, electronic orchestration for a piano-driven sound backed by sparse percussion, accentuating the underlying message of peace and serenity that comes from inner confidence. Summer co-wrote the song with Aqualung’s Matt Hales, who’s also collaborated with music heavyweights like Lianne La Havas, Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles.

Listen to the gorgeous sounds of “Paused Parade,” and make sure to see Summer in concert this Friday at U Street Music Hall.
