Thursday, January 7–Anthony Pirog, Boat Burning, The Caribbean @ DC9. Show 8:30 p.m./Tickets $8 DOS only

One of DC9’s first shows of 2016 features an excellent D.C. lineup on Thursday. D.C. guitar virtuoso Anthony Pirog will share a stage with the powerful guitar collective Boat Burning and experimental pop-rock stalwarts The Caribbean for a great night of music.

Thursday, January 7–RatheMC and Redline Graffiti @ Rock and Roll Hotel. Show 8 p.m./Tickets $12

D.C.’s RatheMC has held her own as one of area’s most talented MCs, with a bold style and confident swagger akin to Lauryn Hill. She’s headlined virtually every big stage in D.C. and even managed to get an MTV VMA Breakout Artist nomination in 2009. On Thursday, the fierce MC headlines Rock and Roll Hotel’s first show of the year with genre-bending band Redline Graffiti.

Friday, January 8–Protect-U, Teen Liver, Ian McColm, Anthony Pirog, The Plums, Nice Breeze, Hothead, Cool People, Oklahoma Car Crash @ CD Cellar. FREE

While you were gone for the holidays, CD Cellar in Virginia moved into its new location in Falls Church. It’s a big and exciting change for the store that will house all the records, CDs and more inventory from the old Falls Church location on West Broad Street and the Arlington location, which will close this month. Before its old spot closes, CD Cellar is throwing two big shows on Friday and Saturday, the first of which features a nice bill of acts from around the area like electronic outfit Protect-U, experimental rockers The Plums, garage rockers Teen Liver and much more. It’s a free show, but make sure to bring cash too–CD Cellar will be taking donations for Planned Parenthood on both days. Check here for show times.

Saturday, January 9–Cigarette, Foul Swoops, Escape-ism, Luke Stewart, Kid Claws, Halfsour, Chester Hawkins, Blk Tag, Chethan Kenkeremath, Lost Civilizations @ CD Cellar. FREE

CD Cellar’s goodbye party continues on Saturday with celestial rockers Cigarette, Ian Svenonius’ project Escape-ism and much more. Like the first night, this show is also free–check here for show times.

Saturday, January 9–The Sea Life, Beverly Tender, Lunch Cult, Baby Bry Bry @ Babe City. Show 7 p.m./$5-$7 donation

Now settled into their new spot, Babe City is hosting its first show of 2016 on Saturday. The awesome lineup features D.C. rockers The Sea Life, the beloved Baby Bry Bry, North Carolina’s Beverly Tender and Portland’s Lunch Cult.
