Today: Ian Svenonius Discusses His New Book, “Censorship Now!!,” at Busboys and Poets

Ian F. Svenonius, D.C.’s own punk Renaissance man, has shifted gears from making music to penning his eclectic thoughts onto paper with his collection of essays in Supernatural Strategies For Making a Rock ‘N Roll Group and The Psychic Soviet.

His background reads like a laundry list of “cool things you wish you could do,” like hosting’s Soft Focus, a chat show which had Svenonius interviewing Ian MacKaye, Chan Marshall, Mark E. Smith among other music vets. His musical resume includes The Nation of Ulysses, Weird War and The Make-Up, the older siblings to the later formed Chain & the Gang.

Today, Svenonius makes an appearance at Busboys and Poets to discuss his latest endeavor, Censorship Now!!, a humorous essay collection that touches on topics like Christian pornography, IKEA, Marion Berry, the gentrification of punk by indie rock, how to properly tip at restaurants, the movie Heathers and everything in-between. It’s a book that tries to make sense of this crazy world in a way that only Svenonius can tell it.

Catch Ian Svenonius’s discussion on Censorship Now!! tonight at 6:30 p.m. Busboys and Poets is located at 2021 14th St. NW. Admission is free.
