Though Teen Mom describes themselves as “a rock band in DC, playing fuzz-pop love ballads,” the group’s new album, Groovy, contains 10 intricately-crafted songs that show their veritable versatility. It’s the first record the band has dropped since their 2013 EP Gilly, and between the cathartic number “Someone Just Like You” to the softer, more subdued track “Girlfriend,” the fuzz-rock band has created a solid release featuring some of their best work.
Even before you hit ‘play’ on the record, the striking cover for Groovy immediately draws you in. Local artist LA Johnson, who’s known for coming up with brilliant poster illustrations, designed Teen Mom’s colorful cover.
Groovy isn’t just a new release for Teen Mom, but sadly it’ll be their last–the band is throwing a farewell show on October 29 at Songbyrd in Adams Morgan. Very bittersweet news.
