Out Today: DC USA by Ugly Purple Sweater
New release Tuesday wouldn’t be complete without Ugly Purple Sweater’s new EP, DC USA. The bands brings back their signature folkĀ aestheticĀ back to life with this four-track release, and if you were a fan of their last full-length Conventions (released in November 2011), then there’s a good chance that you’ll be sold on DC USA as well. My personal favorite track? The vivacious, Johnny Cash-like ringer “Central Detention City Blues” really highlights the band’s strength, especially if seen performed in a live setting. They’ll be celebrating their release on January 12th at Black Cat Mainstage with Kingsley Flood and Kindlewood-and my guess is-it’ll definitely be a packed house.

These guys and (gal) are great live! Doesn’t really translate in the studio recorded stuff though. Unfortunately.
